What Changed in Commissioner’s Cup?
The WNBA is changing the format of the Commissioner’s Cup tournament starting in 2024 for the league’s 28th season. Each team will play a total of 5 Commissioner’s Cup games – one against each in-conference opponent. The Cup games will be played during a dedicated two-week period from June 1-13 as part of the 40-game schedule. Teams will play either 3 Cup games at home and 2 on the road, or 2 at home and 3 on the road.
The teams with the best records in Cup games from each conference will advance to the Commissioner’s Cup Championship on June 25. The Championship game will be hosted by the team with the best overall Cup record. The prize pool for the winning team is $500,000. So the new format focuses the Cup games into a condensed period and guarantees each team faces all in-conference opponents once.
